COLD WEATHER LITHIUM BATTERY TESTING

This project needed an automated test procedure to be performed on a custom-made 3.2 kWh high power lithium battery system at temperatures down to -40 oC. Over 20 strategically positioned temperature sensors had to interact heavily with the battery management system’s CAN bus. In parallel, all of the temperature measurements had to be logged alongside various battery parameters. Reliability was extremely important since testing at those temperatures is both time consuming and very costly.

Hardware: NI PCI DAQ Hardware, Kvaser USBcan Device

Software: LabVIEW, NI-DAQmx, Custom made Kvaser library for .DBC CAN support
